C1502 The Law Did Not Punish the Public

1No one could have anticipated such an enormous disparity.

It's important to understand that since the Middle Ages, the laws of heaven and earth on the Dongyuan Continent have become increasingly fragmented. With the further dissipation of spiritual energy, there haven't been any experts at the Half-level Emperor Level.

Reaching the peak of the Emperor Level was the ultimate achievement.

Lin Xuan had become the foremost among them.

His rate of advancement might just be the fastest since the ancient times.

Such progress was theoretically impossible.

It's more probable that he came into a legacy that defied fate itself.

Regardless, Lin Xuan's power has utterly transformed his standing.

He now towers above the entire Dongyuan Continent.

With that in mind, how could Lin Xuan maintain any semblance of camaraderie with his former sect members?

He had labeled someone a traitor and sought their death one year, and the next, when that person rose to power, should he be expected to recall past friendships?

Such fortune doesn't come easily.

Do they really take others for fools?

The Elemental Spirit Sect Master's face turned a shade of iron, his anger palpable.

He hadn't expected that his lack of hands-on management over the years would allow such arrogant individuals to bring trouble upon the sect.

Originally, since Lin Xuan was from the Elemental Spirit Sect, which was the first to pledge allegiance, and he had conducted himself with integrity and diligence, there was hope.

Considering that there were individuals within the sect who had ties to Lin Xuan, it was possible that he might look favorably upon the Elemental Spirit Hall in the future.

As the master of Tianyuan Palace and the sovereign of the Dongyuan Continent, even a slight shift in his preferences could cause significant upheaval across the land.

The Elemental Spirit Hall stood to gain considerably from this.

Yet, he could never have imagined that these young upstarts would be so defiant and reckless.

Should Lin Xuan hear of this, any remaining goodwill might evaporate.

The substantial benefits that once seemed within reach would vanish.

How could the Sect Master not feel a surge of fury and indignation?

Without hesitation, he took even more decisive action than Wei Zhengzhen.

He commanded the leader of the Elemental Spirit Hall to eliminate those corrupt individuals.

Their affiliated branches and families were cast into an abyss from which recovery would be nearly impossible.

Even with that, his rage was not easily quelled.

These individuals were neither disciples of the Zhenwu Branch nor connected to the Mystic Yin Branch where Ruan Zhu resided.

Otherwise, not even Yuan Lingzi would dare to handle the situation lightly.

More to the point, Yuan Lingzi had deep ties with these individuals, being a significant member of his faction.

Without such confidence, he wouldn't have dared to be so audacious in his actions.

As the sole Emperor Level peak and Grand Elder of the Elemental Spirit Sect, Yuan Lingzi was essentially the linchpin around whom most of the sect's upper echelons revolved.

Removing a few branches wouldn't much affect the core of the sect.

Wei Zhengzhen of the Eastern Righteous Hall, initially despondent for being the first to be caught in corrupt practices, felt a surge of relief upon seeing Yuan Lingzi, Yang Mao, and others with similarly grim expressions, their halls also implicated.

His spirits lifted considerably, finding comfort in shared misfortune.

Standing alone in the spotlight would have been far too risky.

But with others in the same boat, the situation seemed far less dire.

The principle that the law does not punish the masses holds true everywhere.

Even if punishment were to come, he believed that sharing the burden among many would lessen its severity.

And then there was the Canglan Hall.

Regarding the Emperor Level powers within the sphere of influence of the Devil Cloud Sect:

The Devil Cloud Sect had previously shown its true might, igniting war and affecting the entire Dongyuan Continent.

As an Emperor Level power within the affected region, they were the first to face the onslaught.

They were either eradicated or forced to submit and join the Devil Cloud Sect.

Upon Lin Xuan's return, he subdued the Elemental Spirit Sect and commanded the other four major powers to mobilize their main forces to besiege the Devil Cloud Sect.

Recognizing the gravity and unprecedented threat of the situation, the Devil Cloud Sect summoned nearly all of its Emperor Level Martial Cultivators.

Their aim was to maximize the protective grand array's power to fend off the formidable Lin Xuan.

The outcome was clear.

Despite the Devil Cloud Sect's all-out effort, they were no match for Lin Xuan, who was suspected to be beyond the Martial Monarch Stage, at a Half-level Emperor tier, and they crumbled effortlessly before him.

After Lin Xuan breached the sect's grand protective array, the entire upper echelon was eradicated. The middle and lower ranks didn't fare any better, falling to the combined assault of the five major powers. As a result, the Devil Cloud Sect's domain was virtually devoid of any Emperor Level Martial Cultivators. The wealth and resources once hoarded by these Emperor Level forces were now in the hands of the Devil Cloud Sect. They were either used up by the sect or claimed by Lin Xuan himself. There was no longer a need to dispatch envoys to collect tribute.

Despite the disappearance of these Emperor Level forces, their sect headquarters remained intact. The medicinal fields, spirit stone veins, and materials for refining that were housed within these sects couldn't be easily destroyed or transported. They were left behind, still capable of sustaining the needs of Emperor Level forces. Previously, the fearsome reputation of the Devil Cloud Sect deterred anyone from approaching, leaving these resources to fall into neglect. But with the Devil Cloud Sect's downfall, there was no longer any cause for concern.

Many factions were now eager to move in. Yet, with the absence of the Devil Cloud Sect, a new power emerged: Tianyuan Palace. Far more formidable than the Devil Cloud Sect, Tianyuan Palace had not only annihilated the Devil Cloud Sect but also subdued the five great forces, establishing itself as the true sovereign of the Dongyuan Continent. No force remained that could stand against it; not even a coalition was possible. With one of the original six great forces destroyed and the remaining five in submission, resistance was futile.

The Devil Cloud Sect's leftover assets naturally ended up in the hands of Tianyuan Palace. Should any force audaciously attempt to intervene, they would likely be the first targets of the five great halls' wrath. These assets were, after all, highly coveted by the halls. Lin Xuan had already forcefully seized at least half of their reserves. The halls now had to operate on a tightened budget. Even individuals like Yuan Lingzi, Yang Mao, and Wei Zhengzhen, who were at the pinnacle of the Emperor Level, contemplated setting an example by voluntarily cutting back on their cultivation resources.

If the assets of the Devil Cloud Sect were to be divided, it would more than compensate for the losses. The Devil Cloud Sect stood as the sole Demon Force among the six major powers. Even before revealing its full might, it was a premier force on the Dongyuan Continent. Not even the East Saint Sect at its zenith could confidently claim superiority over it. And after igniting a war, the Devil Cloud Sect had absorbed a multitude of other factions. Distributing its wealth could easily satisfy the appetites of the five great forces, all of whom were eagerly anticipating such a division. They would never allow outside forces to meddle in their affairs. However, the current landscape of the continent has shifted. Lin Xuan is now the true sovereign. The decision rests solely with him, not with the collective will of the five great forces. They have no choice but to await Lin Xuan's pronouncement. Lin Xuan has previously stated that the division of the Devil Cloud Sect's assets would be contingent upon the completion of certain tasks.
